Pam Matthews
Pam Matthews is a widely appreciated ceramicist with a truly distinctive sculptural style.
Each bowl and decorative dish is a unique piece of work thrown in stoneware clay and then texture is added using incisions and linework.
After first firing, various oxides, underglazes and glazes are applied and fired to build up layers of rich colour and depth.
Pam’s work is inspired by the Highlands of Scotland and the West Pennine Moors near which she lives.
Pam donates the proceeds of many of her pieces to a local Bolton charity.
Morton Murray
Morton Murray (1939-2008) was a Mechanical Engineer who took up painting quite late in life during recovery from a period of ill-health.
As an engineer, his subject matter naturally focused on machinery and especially the steam locomotives for which Horwich (his home town) was world famous. He called them his “great beasts”.
However, Morton also produced deeply atmospheric landscapes of areas within the Lake District, Scotland and Rivington near Horwich.
As a keen motorcycle enthusiast he painted many portraits of leading bike riders and their race machines.
Pam Wakefield
Pam Wakefield finally became an art teacher in her late twenties to achieve a long-held ambition.
Now semi-retired, she works in oil on canvas and board in a rich, densely coloured, powerful and semi-impressionistic style.
Pam’s work is inspired by the Cheshire countryside where she was brought up and in which she still lives. Her subject matter includes landscapes, industrial archaeology, seascapes, animals, plants and birds – especially owls.
Pam is largely self-taught as an artist and has recently been commissioned to paint a number of animal portraits.
